Universiti Malaysia Sabah is the 9th public university established in Malaysia. Significant with the number 9, the main campus was also built on a 999 acres land situated along Sepanggar Bay, Kota Kinabalu.
The Clock Tower
The clock tower stands tall, welcoming and greeting every guest to Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Inspired by the fourth Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah, it serves as an iconic landmark, located at the main entrance of the campus.
UMS Jetty
Stretched from the shore into the waters of Sepanggar Bay, the jetty is an important channel for students and researchers involved in marine research.
Biotechnology Research Institute

BRI was established in January 2002 to function as Center of Excellence (COE) in the field of biotechnology at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). The establishment of BRI is in tandem with the nation's efforts to promote research and development in biological or life sciences for the improvement of the quality of human life in relations to medicine, food, agricultural science and environmental protection.
Borneo Marine Research Institute
BMRI was established in 2000 as a Center of Excellence for research and development for the conservation and sustainable development of Marine Resources. The University placed its priority to Marine Science and Aquaculture in response to the needs of the state of Sabah and the country, and their growing importance in a global perspective.
Intitute for Tropical Biology and Conservation
As UMS is located in one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots, ITBC is strategically located for students and researchers involved in the natural history of Borneo. The institute is dedicated to research in various field of expertise in taxonomy & biodiversity, tropical ecology, wildlife management, advancement of biodiversity and eco-tourism development.
